Our emotions color how we see and experience the world. An angry mind sees an angry world. A fearful mind sees a threatening world. But when mind is stable, we see a world that is open, fluid, workable, moveable.

Using the Buddhist teachings on the six realms of existence as a framework, Pema Chödrön along with Tim Olmsted teaches that our common psychological states of anger, craving, ignorance, dissatisfaction, jealousy, and obliviousness are an unavoidable part of being human. While the strong emotions associated with the realms can be overwhelming, learning to work with them skillfully can open the door to true freedom.

Don’t wait for the right time, the right situation, the right you. The path of meditative awareness that sparks transformation is available right now. Join Pema to ignite your heart so it glows for the benefit of everyone around you.

Part 1 ( January 3 - February 7) includes:

Introduction to the Six Realms:  Intense experiences are unavoidable. Learn to practice feeling what you feel.

The Hell Realm:  the feeling that everyone and everything is against us may be great motivation for practice.  We don’t have to stay stuck there.

The Hungry Ghost Realm: How often do you feel “never enough?”  Learn how to make space for moving beyond grasping.

Exploring the Mind:  Our mind creates our world.  How does sitting practice help us see a world that is fluid, workable, moveable?

Working with Your State of Mind: Learning to feel what you feel and notice your own habits allows you to deepen your compassion and understanding for those in the same boat.

The Animal Realm: Do you like your routines?  Do you feel irritated when someone changes the plan? Learn to cope when life keeps interrupting your need for order.

Part 2 (March 7 - April 25) includes:

The Human Realm: In this realm we are always thinking “if only.”  But being trapped by dissatisfaction is not inevitable and may even be good motivation for trying life a different way.

Meditative Awareness: Explore the nature of our basic goodness by learning to experience the awareness of mind.

An Honest Exploration: Being honest with ourselves can be terrifying.  Friendliness to ourselves allows us to clear the space for awareness.

Applying Awareness:  Understand how the practice of open awareness is the path to freedom right here, right now, in whatever potential fraught and sticky territories we find ourselves.

Snuffing the Ember before It Turns to Flames:  Learning how to catch or emotions when they’re small may be one of the most important trainings.

The Jealous God Realm: Find out why although this is a tough realm to avoid entirely, our experiences of it are workable.

The God Realm: If we live a safe.comfortable 21st century experience, this realm is very familiar.  How may we expand our awareness beyond what’s easy and comfortable for us to take in?
